My Story

Several months ago I had an enlarged lymph node in my groin area. I saw my Dr and we were watching it, because at times it appeared to be resolving. Simple blood tests showed no cause for concern and plus I was feeling great! As time went on the lump remained and then also new lumps formed. I again saw my doctor. The lymph nodes were small soft and moveable, I had no nausea, fevers, loss of appetite, chills etc. Also what kept coming up was I work in the ER maybe I was being exposed to a lot of things (it was flu season and I had just received 2 different vaccines) and so maybe I was reacting to that. I decided to give it a little more time. Eric and I had had felt a peace about not removing the lymphs at this time for testing. I went back to the doctor a 3rd time after I noticed the lymph nodes in my arm pit area were now also swelling. The doctor ran a ton of blood tests (all negative) and at this point we decided to schedule for them to be removed to just rule out Lymphoma. There was a delay in scheduling the surgery because my doctor was going to Guatemala for a couple weeks and the Lord called me to go to Haiti. So March 5th 2010 I had an outpatient surgery to remove lymph nodes from each side of my groin. Thursday March 11th 2010 I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. I will see an oncologist March 16th for further testing, where he will determine what “stage” I am in and what treatment plans.
So how am I doing? I have ups and downs emotionally but I truly believe that God has been with me throughout my entire life, He has not abandoned me now. He is my source of strength, my joy. I am safe in His Hands. I also believe that I have to cling to His promises for me. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “they are plans for good and not harm, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) and “that I know in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) So my hope and confidence is in Him who loves me!
Thank you all so much for your prayers, your notes, calls, cards and love for me. I have been extremely humbled by all of this. I thank you for choosing to go on this journey with me. As you pray for me, I have been praying for you.
